The brothers Georg and Herbert Reif
Georg and Herbert Reif joined their parents’ business (Herbert and Waltraud Reif) immediately after graduating from hotel management school in Bad Gleichenberg.
Both worked with great enthusiasm and personal commitment right from the start.
This created the ideal conditions for the takeover of the business on January 1, 2008.
"Then and now, the satisfaction of our guests is our top priority!" - The Reif family
Inn & fried chicken station
How it all began
The beer guide Georg Urdl acquired a small inn, which quickly became a popular meeting place for carters from the surrounding area.
Initially, the inn supplied itself with fruit and vegetables as well as meat from the adjacent farm.
Even back then, the Urdlwirt was a popular excursion destination, especially for “people from the big city”.
They traveled from Graz to Premstätten with their horse-drawn carriages and bicycles for a good meal – mainly at the weekend.
Even at this time, the Urdl family enjoyed the widespread fame of the Urdlwirt and its reputation as a popular “fried chicken station”.
Family tradition
The next generation
Georg Urdl (II), son of beer guide Georg Urdl and hobby hunter, took over the inn together with his wife Rosina as the next generation and continued the tradition of his father: home-style cooking and, of course, the good “Styrian fried chicken” continued to be served to the guests.
Rosina Urdl was always the good soul of the business.
As a trained cook, she had the Urdlwirt kitchen fully under control and conjured up delicious dishes with enthusiasm.
The Urdl family and their offspring – their daughters Rosi, Waltraud and Margit – soon shone as the “three-wheeled house”.
Waltraud developed as her mother’s successor and, after graduating from hotel management school in Bad Gleichenberg, worked both in the Urdlwirt kitchen and in service.
She lived in and for the inn.
New momentum in the hotel industry
The new Urdlwirt with Waltraud and Herbert Reif
In this year, Waltraud and Herbert Reif, master confectioners and successful innkeepers in Maria Lankowitz at the time, opened and took over the new Urdlwirt inn with 20 guest rooms, which was built right next to the old building.
The innkeeper couple worked together around the clock for their business and their guests.
Herbert Reif brought the recipes for the delicious strudels and cakes to Premstätten, which are still in use today.
Waltraud Reif – who worked tirelessly in the kitchen – and her husband continually expanded the range of dishes for their guests.
New flavor trends led to the creation of new dishes, while traditional dishes continued to enjoy great popularity.
The 20 guest rooms were soon no longer sufficient to meet the high demand for hotel rooms.
In the following years, the Reif family expanded the hotel business with two new guest houses.
Soon afterwards, the main building was extended and renovated.
Finally, 150 beds for overnight stays, 400 seats in the restaurant and 200 seats on the terrace were available to guests.
Herbert and Waltraud Reif have three children: Georg, Herbert and Brigitte, who have grown up in and with the business.
Georg and Herbert have been working in the family-run business since 1995.
Generation change
It's the turn of the "Junge Reifs"
On January 1, 2008, it was time again for a generational change at the Urdlwirt – Hotel Reif. Herbert and Waltraud Reif handed over the business to their sons Georg and Herbert, who now run it. Both have grown up in the family-run business, so to speak. Their sister Brigitte also supported them from time to time at reception and currently in marketing.
The young Reif family is continuing the basic principles of their parents’ tried and tested system. Since taking over the business, they have also been working continuously to develop it further – together with their team, which has grown to 40 employees – in the interests of their guests.
“Tradition and innovation!” – this is the guiding principle of the young generation, who with their daily commitment and ideas always strive to stay up to date for their guests.
Then as now
We give our house a new coat of paint again and again
We always strive to keep our business “up to date” and to offer you an appealing and attractive ambience.
That is why we have carried out a large number of modernizations and renovations in recent years.
With the takeover by Herbert and Georg Reif, various renovations were also carried out in the hotel and in the restaurant
.
30 hotel rooms were completely renovated and further partial renovations followed the following year.
Hotel Reif has thus introduced a number of innovations for its guests and created a feel-good atmosphere.
In 2012, a new fitness room and a complete renovation of the wellness area were implemented.
And that’s not all: in 2013, the reception, the meeting room and a new hotel entrance were built, which now
ensures a modern atmosphere that goes hand in hand with the Urdlwirt’s traditional history.
The restaurant followed at the same time and was rebuilt and renovated in 2015/16.
In 2019, the popular pizza kitchen was added, which has been attracting guests from the surrounding area and the city ever since.
